We went for a week and stayed in Dunfuinary House which was right by Loch Etive on the main road to Taynuilt. The weather was bad so we spent much of the holiday just lazing about,reading, eating out and watching the ever changing tides over the Falls of Lora.
These could be seen from the cottage. They are tidal rapids which form when the tide level in the open sea drops below the level of the water in Loch Etive.
As the seawater in Loch Etive pours out through the narrow mouth of the loch, it passes over a rocky shelf which causes the rapids to form. The loch mouth is spanned by the historic Connel Bridge.
There were one or two nice days and on these we visited Oban, Dunsaffnage Castle and the gardens of Achnacloich and Angus.
